DVD backup tool for Encrypted DVDs for Linux (DVD-Decrypter for Windows alternative)

Scenario

Your family owns a DVD of your sister’s debutante ball. Your grandmother, who lives overseas, wishes to watch the DVD of her only grand-daughter’s debutante ball. Unfortunately the company that shot and printed the DVD is uncontactable and the DVD is encrypted which makes it difficult to backup. Despite what Big Media says, there are legitimate use cases for backing up your DVDs.

Solution

dvdbackup is a DVD-Decrypter like tool for Linux. To backup your DVD, simply insert the DVD and run the following command from the commandline:

dvdbackup -M

This will backup the DVD into your current working directory.

Note: In order to use dvdbackup, you need the libdvdcss library.
